Sidney actively fosters research across the academic community, from internationally renowned Fellows to undergraduates embarking on their first projects.
Supporting research is one of Sidney's central purposes. Most of our Fellows are leading experts in their fields, publishing world-class scholarship every year (we have produced four Nobel Laureates), but the College's commitment to nurturing research is broad and inclusive, extending to all its members.
Most prominently, it typically appoints two postdoctoral Research Fellows every year: one in the Sciences, one in Arts and Humanities. These highly competitive three-year Fellowships are intended to provide opportunities for scholars at an early stage of their academic careers to establish successful research profiles. The College runs an annual Research Fellowship Competition.
The College is also able to offer a number of postgraduate scholarships, studentships, and bursaries to support postgraduate study, and funds are available to assist with postgraduate research and travel costs. Undergraduates, likewise, have access to a number of funds, both general and subject-specific, that can provide the financial support necessary to complete ambitious dissertation projects.
