Sidney Sussex Boat Club made College history earlier this month by representing Cambridge for the first time in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Regatta at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Supported by Head Coach Dr Silvia Breu and Assistant Coaches Dr. Michael Burcher (Engineering, 1994) and Mr David Winch (Engineering, 1970), our First Men’s VIII beat a number of university crews in a time trial and qualified for Final F. Racing side-by-side against five other crews down a 2km Olympic-standard course, they finished third.

SSBC was also represented by Women’s Captain, Florence Alexander, who raced in the bow seat of a coxed IV as part of the Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club development squad. They finished fourth in Final C.

Following several successful Bumps campaigns and the return of both W1 and M1 to their respective Head of the River Race on the Tideway in London this past March, the strong performances at BUCS demonstrate the renewed commitment and upward potential of the Boat Club.
