The College has appointed Martin Pierce as its new Bursar.
Martin was previously Bursar of Selwyn College. Having graduated in History from Jesus College, Cambridge in the 1980s, he completed a postgraduate teaching degree before a long career in financial services, working for household names including Barclays, Northern Rock (restructuring post-nationalisation), Tesco Bank and Hastings Direct.
Martin has served as Sidney’s Interim Bursar since October 2023, when our previous Bursar Sarah Bonnett took up a new role at the Stephen Perse Foundation.
Martin Pierce said: ‘I am delighted and honoured to be chosen as Sidney’s next Bursar. It has been a pleasure to work with staff colleagues, Fellows and students as Interim Bursar and I very much look forward to now being the ‘real’ one!
‘It is a privilege to have the opportunity to be a part of the next chapter in the life of the College.’
The Master, Professor Martin Burton, said: ‘I am personally delighted with this appointment. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Martin over the past two terms, and he has already demonstrated a huge amount of skill and experience in this role.
‘Martin’s appointment follows an extensive interview process, during which members of our College community met a number of outstanding candidates. I am confident that Martin is the person to help not only with our ‘business as usual’, but with developing our strategy and vision and carefully considering the transformational opportunities that are ahead of us.’
Martin will officially take up his permanent role on 1 May 2024.
