Chapel Choir on tour in America

Sidney Sussex Chapel Choir has just returned from a highly successful three-week tour of the USA. Osborn Director of Music Dr David Skinner writes:

We began with our debut at Carnegie Hall, followed by a glorious 4th of July weekend in Virginia (including Staunton, the home of our new chamber organ).

The choir then made its way back the National Cathedral, Washington DC before a series of concerts along the east coast including Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Cape Cod where we were lavishly hosted by David Fyfe (Natural Sciences, 1963) at his home on the beach!

Then followed Boston, Cambridge MA, and our final concert at St Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, where we were given a magnificent send off at the home of David Wong (Engineering, 1983) close to Central Park. Many thanks to all those who made our stay so memorable and enjoyable!

Here follows a review from Philadelphia that sums up the quality of our performances throughout the tour: "The Choir sang beautifully throughout the program. Ensemble was pristine, tempi were flexible, dynamics were broadly ranged, pitch held immaculately, blend and balance were flawless, and the singing was invested with contrapuntal clarity and expressive intensity ... Skinner and his Choir sang the music with a haunting passion that caught one's breath and touched one's heart."
