The University has confirmed the promotion of Sidney Fellows Christopher Page and Eugenio Biagini to the position of Professor, and Dr Emma Gilby to the position of University Senior Lecturer. The appointments will commence on 1 October 2011.

Christopher Page is Fellow in English and Vice-Master of the College. He specialises in mediaeval music and literature. His latest book The Christian West and its Singers: The First Thousand Years was published in 2009 by Yale University Press.

Eugenio Biagiani is a Fellow in History, specialising in liberalism and republicanism in nineteenth-century Europe. He has published on subjects ranging from liberalism in the age of Gladstone to Irish nationalism and the unification of Italy. His book British Democracy and Irish Nationalism 1876–1906 was published by Cambridge University Press in 2007.

Emma Gilby is a Fellow in Modern and Mediaeval Languages, specialising in French thought and literature of the early modern period. Emma is currently on research leave, which she is using to examine narrative and metaphor in philosophical writing.
