Dr Michael Pollitt discusses the direction of energy policy on The World Tonight.

It was reported this week that energy production from renewal sources such as hydroelectric sources in Scotland has fallen, raising concerns about the ability of the renewables sector to meet the UK's energy needs. In an interview with Robin Lustig Dr Michael Pollitt, Assistant Director of the ESRC Electricity Policy Research Group at the Judge Business School, argues that pushing the expansion of expensive weather-dependent renewable technologies might not be the most cost effective way of de-carbonising UK energy production.

You can listen again to the interview through the BBC iPlayer. The interview begins at 36 minutes and 30 seconds.
