Dame Sandra Dawson chairs debate on science and religion

Dame Sandra Dawson, Professor of Management Studies, and Fellow and former Master of Sidney, has chaired a lively debate on the relationship between science and religion to launch Interfaith Week 2010.

The event, organised by the East of England Faiths Council (EEFC), took place at Shire Hall in Cambridge and explored the impact of religious ethics on translating scientific insights into everyday technology.

The panel included distinguished scientists from different faith traditions:

• Professor Sir Alan Fersht KBE FRS, Herchel Professor of Organic Chemistry at Cambridge University, Director of the Medical Research Council's Centre for Protein Engineering
• Dr Usama Hasan, Middlesex University, Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, writer for The Guardian and part-time imam
• Dr Roger Kingdon, a member of the UK scientific civil service
• Jay Lakhani, a Theoretical Physicist by qualification, Director of Education at the Hindu Council UK
• Revd Dr John Polkinghorne KBE FRS, former Professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Cambridge and President of Queen's College, and an Anglican priest
