Professor Sir John Walker has been awarded the 2011 David Keilin Medal by The Biomedical Society.

Professor Walker will deliver the Keilin Memorial Lecture in Cambridge on January 10th where he will be awarded the Medal, named in honour of the distinguished biochemist David Keilin. Born in Russia, Keilin worked at the Molteno Institute for Parasitological Research in Cambridge from 1925 until his death in 1963, and became the Quick Professor of Biology in 1932. 

John Walker is currently the director of the Medical Research Council's Mitochondrial Biology Unit and is a Fellow in Natural Sciences. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1997 for his work examining the genetic code of mitochondria.
