Boat Club Alumni Dinner 2017

Sidney Sussex Boat Club Alumni Dinner

Celebrating 180 years of rowing at Sidney and 40 years of women in SSBC

Saturday 21st January 2017

In 2016-17, Sidney is celebrating 40  years since the first admission of women as undergraduates. As the first women undergraduates entered Sidney Sussex College in 1976, the Boat Club similarly opened its doors to female rowers. In 1975, Sidney gained its first female cox, and women’s IVs soon after hit the water and raced in the Lent and May Bumps. 40 years on, we aim to celebrate women in the Boat Club, and in 2017 the 180th birthday of SSBC gives us further reason to invite all Sidney rowing alumni back to College on Saturday 21st January 2017.

Join us for a formal dinner in Hall, before which we will be treated to an informal panel discussion showcasing the transformation of SSBC across the past four decades. After dinner, in true SSBC tradition we will be holding an auction for the naming rights for the new Women’s VIII alongside other College memorabilia. The aim of the auction is to raise funds for the Boat Club to ensure that rowing stays free for all students at Sidney, enabling all students to access this fantastic sporting opportunity, regardless of their financial circumstances.
