Celebration of the Life and Work of Clive Wilmer

As previously announced, English Fellow, Clive Wilmer, passed away last year. For more than 25 years, Clive was a central figure in the teaching of English at Sidney, guiding generations of students through Victorians, Moderns, and Practical Criticism. Those who read English at Sidney between 1999 and 2024 will remember him not only as an exceptional teacher but also as an immensely warm and generous presence within the College community.

A celebration of Clive’s life and work will be held on 15 March, coinciding with the publication of his final completed volume, Architecture: The Poems - a verse novel set in fin‑de‑siècle England and France, a period he knew with great insight and affection. We warmly invite members of our community to join us for this occasion, which we hope will also serve as a mini‑reunion for Englings of the last 25 years.

The event is scheduled from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. A booking form is available below. Should you wish to stay for dinner, please indicate this on the form. Dinner arrangements will be confirmed once attendance numbers are known.
