Open to all law alumni and those who work in the law profession
As part of our continued relaunch of the Thornely Society, we are delighted to announce the return of the bi-annual Thornely Lecture in London on Tuesday 3 June 2025 at 6:30 pm.
This year, we are honoured to welcome The Honourable Sir Stephen Kós KNZM (1985, LLM), who will deliver a thought-provoking lecture titled:
"The Right to be Selfish? How the Courts Limit Contractual Discretions"
Sir Stephen’s distinguished career spans commercial litigation, his appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 2007, and his tenure as President of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand before his elevation to the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 2022. In recognition of his contributions to the judiciary and legal education, he was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2023.
The lecture will be held at Travers Smith LLP, 10 Snow Hill, London EC1A 2AL, and we are incredibly grateful to Michael Raymond (2004, Law) for generously providing the venue.
