Network Connections in Students' Rooms

Wired Internet Connections

All student rooms within the college have wired network connections available. In rooms where there are two network sockets this is unusually the 'B' or '2' socket.

If you wish to be connected to the college network your computer will need an Ethernet port with an (RJ-45 connector) and a cable. Newer laptops such as the slimmer Macbooks do not have an Ethernet port. In this case you will require a USB to ethernet adapter.

You are also responsible for ensuring that your machine has anti-virus software running and up to date. You can download the latest free virus scanning software for PCs, Macs and Linux machines from the Computing Service at: https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/user-accounts-security/security/antivirus-individuals/ Please ensure that you only run ONE antivirus program on your machine. We would also recommend using an anti-malware program such as MalwareBytes or Spybot. Your OS (Operating System) and programs must be kept upto date with the latest updates and security patches.

You will need to register to connect to the wired network. When you connect to the ethernet you should be redirected to the registration page. If you are not you can manually go to this page by entering the following URL into your web browser: https://register.sid.cam.ac.uk/members/

If you have any queries please email computer@sid.cam.ac.uk with your CRSID, room number and OS (Windows/ Mac/ Linux)
