Cardiothoracic Surgeon Registrar at St Bartholomew's Hospital
Mr Vinci Naruka studied Medicine at Sidney Sussex College in 2011 and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2017. During his time at Cambridge, he was the Clinical Student Representative for the Council of the Medical School in 2015. He held position as Vice President for Cambridge University Surgical Society and for the Cambridge University Cardiology Society in 2016-17.
He attained the extremely competitive run-through National Training Number in Cardiothoracic Surgery in London, on his first attempt straight after Foundation Year 2 in 2019.
He is currently a ST7 Cardiothoracic Surgery senior registrar at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, one of the largest cardiac surgery hospitals in Europe. He has received further training at other world-renowned hospitals including Royal Brompton & Harefield hospitals, St George’s hospital and Hammersmith hospital. He has been the Trainee Representative for Cardiothoracic Surgery in London for the last 3 years.
He has been in the Residents Committee and Education Committee for the European Association for Cardio-thoracic surgery (EACTS) between 2020-2024 which organises educational content for trainees in Cardiothoracic surgery across the globe. He additionally founded the Pre-Trainee committee at EACTS which aims to introduce the specialty earlier to medical students and pre-training doctors. He is currently part of the EACTS Mentoring Committee.
Mr Naruka has led a multi-centre collaborative projects involving medical students. He has an array of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and several international presentations with regular surgical projects.
He is heavily involved in national education and mentoring medical students and junior doctors towards a career in surgery. For the last 7 years, he has given multiple talks nationally on tips on how to succeed in the surgical application and develop a competitive CV. His talks have previously been found extremely useful and have guided many young students and doctors to get ahead. He says ”The preparation starts years before when you are a medical student. If I can do it, so can you!”
