A special way to end the week

Thomas Tallis's early psalms sung at Friday Evensongs

At Friday Evensongs this term the Choir have been singing Thomas Tallis's early English psalm settings, which have been specially edited for a new Novello & Company collection by Osborn Director of Music Dr David Skinner.

The settings date back to the sixteenth century. In 1567 the then Archbishop of Canterbury Matthew Parker published a translation of the Psalms of David in metre, or rhyme. Tallis produced nine settings to show how Parker's translations might be fitted to music. This week the choir will be singing Psalm 5: Vera mea auribus (Tallis's Sixth Tune).

Friday Evensong begins at 6.45pm.

You can download the Lent Term service card by following the link to the Chapel section of the College website.

Dr Skinner's new edition of Tallis' psalms and anthems will be published by Novello & Company in Spring 2013.
