A timber skyscraper for London?

Sidney Fellow in Architecture Michael Ramage and College Research Associate Rob Foster were part of a team that recently presented designs for a 300m skyscraper to Mayor of London Boris Johnson. With 80 storeys, the plans might seem conventional. Until, that is, it becomes clear that the structural material is timber rather than steel.

The designs are conceptual, intended to prompt engineering and design research into what might be possible with sustainable construction techniques. You can read more by following the link to the research news section of the University of Cambridge website.
