New Sidney sports event: Atalanta Sports Challenge

Inaugural Sidney Sussex Women’s Sports Event

The Atalanta Sports Challenge was launched recently by third and second year Sidney women's sports captains, Issy Marks, Ginny Fellow, Kaori Takenaka and Fran Owen. The participants in the event were primarily current students, but it is hoped that this year’s graduating students will return next year and help make the challenge a popular annual event.  Prior to this year’s inaugural tournament there was no annual competition for current and former students in women’s College sport, unlike in men’s rugby and football.

Women’s Football co-captain Issy Marks writes, ‘The name comes from the female Greek god of sport. The tournament aims to build confidence and pride in women's sports in College, and raise the profile of sport amongst College members’. By so doing it is hoped that more Sidney women will get involved in sport, both in training and in formal inter-collegiate competitions.
