The Sandra Dawson Fellowship

Diversity - of individuals and ideas - is at the heart of Sidney Sussex College. It powers innovative, exciting, and significant research, and sustains an inclusive and supportive community.

As part of our Forward Together celebration, marking 50 years of women at Sidney, we are creating a new Fellowship to support rising talent and enrich scholarly engagement within the College and across the University. This Fellowship will be permanently endowed through philanthropic donations and named in honour of Professor Dame Sandra Dawson DBE, the first female Master of Sidney Sussex, who celebrates her 80th birthday next year.

Honouring Sandra Dawson

The Sandra Dawson Fellowship recognises the remarkable achievements of Sandra Dawson - the first woman to lead a formerly all-male Cambridge College. For generations of alumni, Sandra has been a source of inspiration and encouragement, both during their time at Sidney and beyond.

The Fellowship will nurture emerging academic talent while advancing the College’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion - values that reflect Sandra’s lifelong passions and professional legacy.

Support the Fellowship

We invite you to join us in shaping this lasting legacy. Your support will help endow the Fellowship in Sandra Dawson’s name and ensure that Sidney Sussex continues to champion diversity, innovation, and excellence in scholarship.
