COLLEGE RESEARCH ASSOCIATES (CRAs)

Closing date: Monday, 26 June 2017

Sidney Sussex College intends to appoint a number of College Research Assosciates (CRAs) from September 1st 2017.

Applicants must hold a contract of employment with the University of Cambridge in a post-doctoral research role for the duration of the Associateship.  Preference will be given to applicants who intend to be resident in Cambridge for most or all of their period of appointment.  There are no conditions of age or subject attached to these positions, but applicants would normally be early in their research career and not yet in a tenured post.

CRAs will be selected by reference to their ability to contribute to the intellectual and educational live of the College.  Typical contributions include combinations of the following:

  • Support of the College's research activities, including giving seminars and providing advice and guidance to research students
  • Undergraduate teaching through supervisions (which will be paid at standard rates plus the same mark-up applicable to College Teaching Associates)
  • Support of the College's outreach and work to widen participation and of the College's Development Office, for example by giving "public interest" lecutures to groups of alumni or writing articles about their research for College publications.

Tenable for two years with the opportunity of being renewed once for a further two year period there is no stipend or honorarium but Associates have access to College facilities including the library, gym, senior combination room and may enjoy high table dining (1 lunch and 1 dinner per week) with the possibility of additional dining for a charge.

Applications should be submitted by e-mail to senior.tutor@sid.cam.ac.uk by MONDAY 26th JUNE 2017. The portfolio must include a) the applicant's curriculum vitae and b) a statement of not more than 600 words, intelligible to academics in a completely different discipline, outlining the applicant's research plans and the area(s) in which the applicant hopes to contribute to the intellectual and educational life of the College.  The applicant also needs to ensure that a reference (typically from a Cambridge departmental sponsor) is received by the same date.  Appointments will be made by the College Council at its Annual Meeting on 5th July 2017 and all applicants shall be informed of the outcome of their application thereafter.
