Mark Gurnell is Professor of Clinical Endocrinology at the University of Cambridge. He is clinical lead for adrenal and pituitary services at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the East of England, and co-directs a national & international referral service for patients with complex/atypical thyroid function tests.

His research is focussed on the development of novel approaches to the investigation and management of adrenal, pituitary and thyroid disorders, which can be rapidly translated in to clinical practice. His specific interests include:

  • molecular imaging in pituitary adenomas and primary aldosteronism
  • genetic and acquired disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis
  • acromegaly
  • the role of the endocrine system in risk taking & financial decision making

As SubDean in the School of Clinical Medicine, he leads the Assessment programme in Cambridge, and is chair of the UK Medical Schools Council Assessment Alliance Board.
