Sidney Sussex College seeks to appoint a College Teaching Associate in Chemistry from 1 September 2020, to increase our internal resources in the key cross-cutting paper of the largest single BA course (“Tripos”) in the University.

The Associate will join an engaged and diverse community of fellow professional researchers who share a commitment to undergraduate teaching.  Sidney’s lively and multidisciplinary academic environment includes a flourishing and engaged group of Teaching and Research Associates and Visiting Scholars alongside the main Fellowship (see https://www.sid.cam.ac.uk/people/fellows-and-academic-staff)

The successful applicant’s typical profile will include a PhD in Chemistry, and prior experience of teaching undergraduate Chemistry: a track record of successful small group teaching constitutes a particularly relevant qualification. The ability to supervise Physical/Inorganic Chemistry will be an advantage, including some of the following: 1st year courses on Energetics and equilibria, Kinetics of chemical reactions and Chemistry of the elements and all parts of the 2nd year course, Chemistry A. It is unlikely that a successful candidate would have a current affiliation to another College in the University.

The post is non pensionable.  In addition to the stipend, the Associate will also benefit from the availability of shared office space, IT support, daily meals, and formal dining.

The Associateship may be renewed yearly by mutual agreement.

Applications must be submitted to HR@sid.cam.ac.uk by Friday 21 August 2020, using the Application Form downloadable from https://www.sid.cam.ac.uk/about-sidney/vacancies.  Applicants should note that if shortlisted, they may be invited to attend an interview in course of the following week.
