International Record Review reviews Sidney Choir's new CD.

Sidney Sussex Choir's new CD of the music of Thomas Weelkes, Grant the King a Long Life, has received strong endorsement in the latest issue of International Record Review. Reviewer Robert Levett praises the contrast of material included on the disc, which supports fine ensemble and solo performances from the choir. The soloists include James Cormack (tenor), Chris Webb (bass), Eleanor Cramer and Catherine Shaw (soprano) and Rosemary Dilnot (alto). Recorded in July last year, the selection of anthems and instrumental music also provides a showcase for organ accompaniment - praised for its "clarity and poise" - from Benjamin Atkinson and Daniel Smith, as well as sensitive support from early music instrumental group Fretwork, which is described as a "delight [to] both ear and brain".

This is the third release on the Obsidian label for the choir under Osborn Director of Music Dr David Skinner. David is delighted with the disc, and is looking forward to many more with the Choir. He said, "This is an important release for the Choir, exploring the under-appreciated anthems of Thomas Weelkes. To receive such warm reviews is a testament to the talent and hard work of all involved".
