Former Master's war service remembered

Tommy Knox-Shaw was a popular Fellow in Mathematics and Master of Sidney Sussex College. He had studied at the College and was elected as a Fellow in 1909 and after the war returned to College as Tutor before serving as Master between 1945 and 1957.

Knox-Shaw served in the South Lancashire Regiment and the York and Lancaster Regiment, and saw action in France and Mesopotamia. He was mentioned in despatches three times, and was awarded the Military Cross and the Belgian Croix de Guerre.

Sidney alumnus Robert Allen (1965) recently presented Knox-Shaw's medals to the College, which came to him through the family. They are fitting addition to our collection of materials being gathered for our commemoration of the centenary of the Great War.
