Watch Dr Harriet Groom, Stanley Elmore Research Fellow in Biological Natural Sciences at Sidney and previously holder of a Henslow Fellow from the Cambridge Philosophical Society, discuss her HIV research.

As part of the Cambridge Philosophical Society’s series of case studies to spotlight the work of the Society’s Henslow Fellows, Dr Harriet Groom explains how she worked on unpicking the intricate interactions between cells and viruses during infection which dictate host response and how this helped the understanding of  normal cell behaviour using retroviruses, herpesviruses and coronaviruses as model systems.

Harriet also discusses her motivations for applying for the Henslow Fellowship and how she used it to bust the myth that HIV is a solved problem. Harriet highlights that whilst antiretroviral drugs have helped many people with HIV to have a very normal life, this is not the case for all 40 million people around the world with HIV who may not have access to or respond to these drugs.
