Sidney student room renovations near completion.

Work to renovate student rooms and kitchens in Sussex House is progressing well.  Contractors have re-ordered the layout of the building and are now on a final push to complete the work before the start of term.

The work will result in thirty student rooms and three large kitchens in the building, as well as refurbished bathroom and gyp facilities.

Earlier in the summer contractors also repaired the historic gates to Sidney Sussex that date from the so-called Wyatville remodelling of the College, which began in the 1820s.  Construction on the tower began in 1831 and work has been done to repair the metal footing to the wicket gate, which has seen many feet (and bikes) pass over it in the intervening years.

That remodelling saw Hall and Chapel Courts developed in a Gothic, castellated fashion and the original red brickwork covered in a unifying layer of Roman cement.  Much worked on over the years, repairs are currently being made to the cement in Hall Court.
