The Song Cyclists

Ben, Joachim, Jonny, Ollie and Will met singing in the choir of Sidney. Here they nurtured a passion for choral music and an enthusiasm, if not a proficiency, for sporting endeavour. Graduating between 2012 and 2015, they were all keen to find a project to combine their vocal skills and their athletic ambition. It all fit into place when they discovered the work of the charity, Mind.

Mind comprises 135 local centres throughout England and Wales providing support for people at their moment of greatest need and provide vast amounts of research and information from medical health professionals, people with previous experience of mental health issues and celebrities such as Stephen Fry. Suicide is the largest killer of men under 49 in the UK and one in four of us will experience a mental health problem every year; Mind believe that no one should have to face those challenges alone. The boys are hoping to raise £20,000 to help Mind continue to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.

The boys are keeping a video blog of their journey which kicked off around a week ago and saw the group cycle from John O’Groats to Brora. They will reach Land's End bandstand for a final performance at 17.00 on Saturday 21st July.  

14 concerts in 14 days…

The Song Cyclists will begin singing the legendary Scottish folksong 'Loch Lomond' at Duncansby Head lighthouse and finish with an English equivalent, 'What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor', at First and Last House in Land's End fourteen days later. The group have already passed through Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol and will endure 1000 miles of cycling in total - all for a fantastic cause!
