College Teaching Associate Dr Amalio Fernández-Pacheco coaches basketball team to Varsity victory.

Cambridge's basketball team recently triumped 93-68 in their annual battle against Oxford, their first win in the fixture since 2005. The victorious team was coached by Sidney College Teaching Associate in natural sciences Dr Amalio Fernández-Pacheco, a post-doctoral research associate in the Thin Film Magnetism Group at the Department of Physics.

Amalio says,

"I've been coaching basketball for 17 years, the last three in Cambridge. This season I became the head coach of the Mens Blues team, and after an excellent league tournament we won Varsity, the first time since 2005. I'm really happy about it: my team was fantastic, playing the best basketball of the season for this special match, which shows the winning character of my players.

Tactically I prepared very carefully the match, and that helped us to beat Oxford comfortably, by 25 points. The atmosphere in Cambridge was fantastic, it was a very special moment."

Congratulations to all involved.
