Professor Lindsay Greer appointed Head of the School of Physical Sciences.

Sidney Fellow in Materials Science Professor Lindsay Greer has been appointed as the next Head of the School of Physical Sciences at Cambridge.

Professor Greer's appointment follows his recent position as the Head of the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy, which among other things involved managing the move of the department into its new building at West Cambridge. He has been a Fellow of Sidney since 1984, and his research examines microstructural kinetics, or how materials change their structures. He was recently the recipient of an honorary doctorate from AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, the latest in a long line of honours and awards including the Pilkington Teaching Prize of the University of Cambridge, the Hume Rothery Prize and the Griffith Medal of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the Honda Kotaro Memorial Medal of Tohoku University, the Lee Hsun Lecture Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Bruce Chalmers Award of TMS (USA).

His 4-year appointment as Head of School starts on 1st January 2016.
