Cambridge Regional College are currently hosting the University of Cambridge Culinary Competition, and our chefs came back with plenty to smile about yesterday!

The University of Cambridge Culinary Competion is taking place on the 25 and 26 October 2017, with College chefs competing to be the very best in their field.

The competition was established back in 1961, at which time it was a class in a much larger competition run by the Food & Cookery Association of East Anglia at their bi-annual event, held at various locations including the Cambridge Guildhall, in marquees on Midsummer Common and at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.

The class was open to chefs from the Colleges of the University of Cambridge and was won by a single chef, unlike today where it is a team achievement. The competition had a 20 year gap but was re-invented in 2006 as an annual event for all University staff and is organised by an enthusiastic Committee of Catering Managers and Head Chefs. The Stewards’ Cup will be awarded to the best team effort taken from all the classes across the competition.

Sidney Sussex has won the competition seven times since 1961, and our chefs have already scooped plenty of awards after the first day of this year's competition.

A big congratulations to the following Sidney chefs who brought a number of awards:
Jonny Bridgeman – Bronze Best in Class - Duck Class
Tomasz Zaborowski – Silver - Sustainable Fish Class
Ryan Taylor – Silver - Lamb Class
Rob Blackwell – Gold Best in Class - Coffee Shop Cake, Silver - Petits Fours Class

Sidney came in second overall out of the University's 31 Colleges.
