Sidney student Hannah Oghene curates Changing Spaces exhibition.

Sidney Classics student Hannah Oghene has recently curated an art exhibition in Cambridge. Taking advantage of a local scheme, Changing Spaces, and with support from Sidney Sussex and the Cambridge University African Caribbean Society, Hannah took over a vacant shop on Norfolk Street to stage her exhibition, ‘Scandal: Changing the way we see the nude’. The sparse white walls and bare wooden boards provided a striking backdrop to a combination of photography, sculpture and mixed media.

As Hannah explained in an article she penned for Varsity, the exhibition juxtaposed perceptions of nudity. It’s playful title, she says, to draw attention to how nudity has in large part lost its scandal, while the choice of art expressly contrasted attitudes in Western and African culture.

Hannah is planning a career in curating once she graduates and, as she told the Cambridge News, she hopes to work on an exhibition in Nigeria.
