A week used to be a long time in politics. Not anymore. Today, an hour can feel like a political eon.

In this 30-minute documentary for BBC Radio 4, Research Fellow in History, Rhys Jones, asks why the last eighteen months in politics has seemingly unfolded at breakneck speed. From the race to deliver Brexit to the daily scandal-machine of the Trump Whitehouse, we appear to be living through an age of superfast politics. But what has caused this? And where is it all leading?

By travelling back through time, to the Reformation and the French Revolution, Rhys explores other eras of superfast politics, examines the historical conditions that produced them, and wonders whether our need for speed today is rushing headlong to catastrophe.

Superfast Politics wil be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 11.00am on Friday 8 December.
