Sidney Sussex College has elected Özge Öner as its new Vice-Master

Özge Öner is a Fellow in Economics at Sidney Sussex College and an Associate Professor in Spatial Economics at the Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge.

Öner completed her PhD in Economics in Sweden, where she also held research and teaching positions at Jönköping International Business School and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics. Her work focuses on the spatial dimensions of political preferences, entrepreneurship, migration, and regional development. She has also written columns for Svenska Dagbladet in Sweden, and currently contributes weekly to Oksijen in Turkey. 

Öner joined Sidney in 2019 and has been actively involved in teaching, research, and College life before taking up the role of Vice-Master.

"I am honoured to take on the role of Vice-Master at Sidney Sussex. The College has been my home in Cambridge for several years, and I see this position as an act of stewardship – a chance to help carry forward the values that make Sidney such a special place."

The Master, Professor Martin Burton, said: "I am delighted that Öz is taking on this role, and grateful to Eugenio Biagini for having served with distinction as Vice-Master for the past two terms.
