The College is saddened to report the death of Fellow in Medicine Christopher Parish.

Sidney Sussex College had learned of the death of Fellow in Medicine Christopher Parish on 28th May 2014, his 97th birthday.

Mr Parish was one of the College’s longest-standing Fellows, having been elected in 1968.  A cardio-thoracic surgeon, Mr Parish was instrumental in the development of Papworth hospital following his appointment there in 1952.  Following his election to a fellowship at Sidney Sussex he taught medicine for the College for many years. He also served as Dean of postgraduate study at the Medical School in Cambridge.

You can read a set of recollections by Christopher Parish on the website Elsworth Chronicle (please note that the link will open as a PDF).  These were taken from an oral history project that he participated in in 2004.  The Cambridge News has also published an obituary.

Christopher Parish's funeral was held on Monday 9th June at Boxworth parish church. The College is also planning to hold a memorial service in the next academic year.  A full obituary will be published in a future edition of the College Annual.
