Law alumnus Mark Rawlinson has recently been named The Lawyer's 'Partner of the Year' for 2011.

Sidney has a proud tradition in Law, dating back to the appointment of John Thornely as its first Law Fellow in 1948. Mark Rawlinson, who was recently named 'Partner of the Year' in The Lawyer's annual awards, studied at Sidney in the 1970s.  It was, he says, meeting John Thornely that inspired him to take up law, and Thornely's guidance that later shaped his decision to join Freshfields, where he has been a partner for over twenty years.

That tradition is carried on in part through the generosity of many of Sidney's Law graduates. Through the Thornely Society, which honours the memory of John Thornely, the College is now able to fund a lecturer in Law, Dr Jillaine Seymour, as well as offer a series of bursaries to students studying Law.
