Jewish Memory in Contemporary Poland

Sidney Sussex hosts a virtual tour of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw.

University Lecturer in Polish Studies and recently elected Fellow in Modern and Medieval Languages Dr Stanley Bill will host a special event on behalf of Cambridge Polish Studies on Friday 16th January.

The event will feature a virtual tour of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw.  Conducted by the museum's Program Director Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, the tour will illustrate the museum’s philosophy and how Poland is rediscovering the Jewish dimension of its history.

This presentation will lead into a broader discussion on the subject of Jewish memory in contemporary Poland with Dr Roma Sendyka, a researcher at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow currently working on memory and everyday visual experience.  The discussion will address questions ranging from how the Jewish past is remembered by different groups within contemporary Polish society to the "purpose" of Jewish memory in contemporary Poland.
