Distinction for Dr Simon Campbell.

Honorary Fellow Dr Simon Campbell has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List for services to Chemistry.

Dr Campbell enjoyed a distinguished research career at Pfizer, where he was a key member of the research teams that discovered important new drugs such as amlodipine, doxazosin and sildenafil (Viagra) and was Head of WW Discovery.  He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999 and also served as President of the Royal Society of Chemistry.  In 2006 he was made a CBE for services to science and in 2013 was elected as an Honorary Fellow of Sidney Sussex.

Dr Campbell and his wife Jill are members of Sidney Sussex’s 1596 Foundation.  Through the Simon and Jill Campbell Foundation they support bursaries for students studying maths and natural science, as well as other access initiatives.
