It's General Admission time at Sidney! Congratulations to all undergraduates who are proceeding to their first Degrees.

Degree Congregations are held at the Senate House on various dates throughout the year. The Congregation of the Senate House is one of the oldest traditions in the University and its origins can be traced back some 800 years.

Fola Afolabi and Alia Khalid matriculated in 2015, and alongside completing undergraduate degrees in Human, Social, and Political Sciences and Philosophy respectively, they were also both heavily involved in access and outreach work in College. We caught up with them to reflect on their time at Sidney, and to find out what they’ll be doing next.

"I have immensely enjoyed my time at Sidney due to the wonderful people I've gotten to know and work with. Through rowing I met some of the most inspiring grad students and I got to connect with the younger years, through access I got to work with amazing people from similar backgrounds towards making Sidney even more inclusive, and through, just generally being myself, I managed to find the best friendship group I could have hoped for. Thanks to the help of some people in College, I secured a place on the JET Programme, where I will be living and working in Japan as an English teacher and cultural representative from August."

"Partaking in access through being an Access Initiative Representative and Access Officer was my favourite aspect of life at Sidney. The opportunity to visit comprehensive schools in Stoke-on-Trent and Lewisham was a great chance to demystify the university application process and challenge preconceptions students had about Oxbridge. I am glad to see that though our outreach work, Sidney has become an even more diverse and welcoming space to be in. My passion for enacting change is an important reason why I will be studying for a Master's degree in International Social and Public Policy at the LSE in September."
