Sidney Fellow Professor Eugenio Biagini and Dr Barry Colfer, Fellow of St Edmund’s College, have organised a series of webinars discussing the future of the island of Ireland.

The Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics and Sidney Sussex College are hosting the Cambridge seminar on the future of the island of Ireland series that invites leading figures from the world of politics, culture, academia and civil society to reflect on the island of Ireland’s future. These timely discussions are taking place while the implications of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU continue to play out.

The one-hour long meetings take place over Zoom and begin with an intervention on a theme by a speaker, followed by a semi-structured conversation with an academic and end with a moderated questions and answers session with attendees.

Everyone is welcome to register to join the upcoming events, which are outlined on the Centre for Geopolitics website. The next event will take place tonight and will welcome the speakers Sir David Lidington, Sidney alumnus and former Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office (Conservative Party), and Professor Biagini. Registration for the meeting is available here: https://cam-ac-uk.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_qHYVvk3iQJWBiNK0DWL86Q.

David Lidington’s intervention will be followed by Claire Hanna MP (SDLP) on 4 October, Julian Smith MP (former Conservative Secretary of State for Northern Ireland) on 11 October, Bertie Ahern on 18 October, Eileen Weir (Shanhill Women’s Centre) on 25 October, Lord Robin Eames on 01 November, John Bruton on 08 November, Matt Carthy TD (SF) on 22 November, Ivana Bacik TD (Labour) on 29 November, Doug Beattie MLA (UUP) on 6 December, with others in the works for the new year.
