Sidney Sussex College would like to congratulate Professor Martin Karplus on being awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Professor Karplus, of Université de Strasbourg and Harvard University, was formerly John Wilfrid Linnett Visiting Professor of Chemistry and Visting Fellow at Sidney Sussex College in 2003. 

He shares the prize with Michael Levitt, who completed a PhD at Peterhouse, and Arieh Warshel.  They were awarded the Prize for "for the development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems".  You can read their citation by visiting the Nobel Prize website.

John Wilfrid Linnett was a distinguished chemist, formerly Master of Sidney Sussex between 1970 and 1975.
