The College was saddened to learn of the death of the Irish politician and Sidney graduate Brian Lenihan, following an eighteen month battle with pancreatic cancer.

A former Irish Finance Minister, Brian Lenihan was tasked with overseeing the financial guaranteeing of Ireland's banking debts as well as the IMF's bailout during the worst financial crisis in memory.

Brian Lenihan studied for his LLM at Sidney Sussex before practising at the King's Inns in Dublin. He was elected as Fianna Fail TD for Dublin West in 1996 and went on to serve as Justice Minister and then as Finance Minister in Brian Cowen's administration.
