Dr Tom Lambert blogs about his new book

Oxford University Press has published Law and Order in Anglo-Saxon England by Fellow in History Dr Tom Lambert.

In his research, Dr Lambert seeks to embed the legal development and practice in everyday social and economic contexts. In an accompanying blog on the Oxford University Press (OUP) website he asks how the state responded to crimes where it was ultimately unable to catch people in the act of committing them. Emblematic of that challenge, he argues, was the threat of the thief: secretive schemers who would not admit of their crime or responsibility.
