Heather Thompson, the 2019-2020 Pitt Professor of American History and Institutions and Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, will be giving her Inaugural Lecture on Monday 27 January. Professor Thompson's topic is 'American Prison Uprisings and Why They Matter Today'.

The lecture will take place at 5.00pm in the Cripps Court Auditorium, Magdalene College.

Thompson is Professor of History and Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan. She is one of the leading authorities on the history of mass incarceration in America. Her 2016 book, Blood in the Water: The Attica Uprising of 1971 and its Legacy, won the Pulitzer and Bancroft Prizes.
