A charity dinner has raised over £1,000 for the baby charity Tommy's.

Sidney student Tom Davenport's idea was simple; a dinner in aid of Tommy's with a guest list of 100 people named Tom, Thomas or Tommy. With the hardwork of a small committee of Toms and the support of Big Tom Tomato Juice the dinner, held in Sidney on 3 February, raised in excess of £1,000.

Professor Sir Tom Blundell, Fellow in Biochemistry, regaled the assembled Toms on the merits of their name, whilst the popular comedy duo Totally Tom waived their usual fee to provide after-dinner entertainment.

Tommy's works to fund medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage. Their aim is to halve by 2030 the number of babies that die during pregnancy or birth.
