Confrat is commemorating the life and work of Derek Beales by way of a memorial event, on Tuesday 21 November 2023, that will see colleagues and former students honour his contributions as a historian, supervisor and tutor.
Derek was the longest serving member in the history of the Confraternitas Historica. He joined the society in Michaelmas 1950, and he went on to become Magister Rotulorum (1951/52) and Princeps (1952/53). After his election to a College Fellowship in 1955, he guided generations of Sidney students and Confrat senators, and faithfully partook in Confrat events until very recently.
All of Derek's former students and all of Sidney's history alumni are warmly invited to participate in this event, either remotely (by way of Zoom) or in person.
