Sidney Fellow on In Our Time

Professor Tim Blanning debates Eugène Delacroix's painting Liberty Leading the People on Radio 4.

Professor Blanning joined Melvyn Bragg, Professor Tamar Garb and Dr Simon Lee to discuss the impact of Eugène Delacroix's 1830 painting of a Parisian barricade in the French Revolution and the significance of its themes. As Bragg explains in his introduction, the painting was once deemed by some to be too subversive to be shown in public but is now recognised as one of the most influential art works of the nineteenth century.
