Christopher Stoneman

The College is saddened to report that Fellow Commoner Professor Christopher Stoneman has died.

Born in 1927, Christopher graduated from Sidney Sussex in 1949 with a degree in law. After a few years teaching in Britain he emigrated to the United States, where, after further studies at the University of Virginia Law School, he became a successful attorney in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Christopher was the brains behind the Sidney Sussex Foundation, founded in 1973. The Foundation introduced Sidney to American-style fundraising and alumni relations. In recognition of this work in 1977 he was elected as a Fellow Commoner. The Foundation is described in detail in Pheon 26.

The Vermont Standard has published an obituary to Christopher Stoneman.
