Windows XP Configuration
This guide details the steps necessary to configure the TCP/IP protocol (necessary for Internet Connections) within Windows XP. Before using this guide you should have installed and configured your ethernet adaptor, received the notification form with your IP information and that the ethernet socket in your room has been made active. You may need your Windows installation CD-ROM during this process.
Double-click the Network Connections Icon in Control Panels.
Network Connections:
DoubleClick on Local Area Connections to display the Local Area Connection Status
Click on Properties
This should display your network card information on top if not your card or the drivers are improperly installed. Please consult the documentation that came with your hardware.
Your installed clients and protocols will be displayed in the lower box.
DoubleClick Internet Protocol (TCPIP)
This will display the (TCPIP) Properties
Select "Use The Following IP Address:"
USE ONLY THE NUMBERS THAT WERE RECEIVED IN YOUR NOTIFICATION
- Enter your IP address.
- Enter your subnet mask.
- Enter your default gateway/router.
Select "Use the following DNS server address:"
- Enter your preferred DNS Server:
- Enter your Alternate DNS Server.
- Click "OK" and follow the directions.
Ensure your internet browser connection is set to look for a network connection
Your machine should now be ready to run Internet applications.
