Sidney's Gardens

"It is difficult to imagine how the Sidney Sussex College Garden has evolved from the symmetrical, regimented look of centuries ago to the informal and relaxed layout that it has today.  Early prints show an arterial path dividing the garden into two and a number of small areas sectioned by high walls and hedges.  Today its most alluring quality is the calm and tranquil atmosphere given by the grace of the mature trees which canopy free-flowing naturalised areas and sweeping borders, making you feel quite unrestricted as you wander around."

- Head Gardener Trevor Rees, writing in The Sidney Sussex College Gardens:  A History and Guide (available from the Membership and Development Office).

The Sidney Sussex Garden Tour has become a popular feature of the Cambridge University Alumni Weekend.  But if you've missed this event, don't worry -- the Sidney Gardens are open and beautiful at all seasons!
