Visit to Durham University

14-15 July 2017

The Sidney Sussex Society invites Sidney alumni and their guests to join us on a trip to Durham. This is a fantastic opportunity to tour the University and the Castle, visit Palace Green Library and the H G Wells exhibition and the Cathedral including the new Open Treasure exhibition.

 The preliminary programme is as follows (may be subject to minor changes):

Friday 14 July

 

11.00- Reception and talk by Professor Stuart Corbridge, Vice-Chancellor and Sidney Alumnus

12.00- Lunch at the Palatine Café

13.30- Visit to the Development and Alumni relations Office

14.30- Guided tour of the Stockton Road Campus followed by tea in the Palatine Café

16.00- Free time

19.00- Dinner at the Restaurant Cellar Door, Saddler Street

Saturday 15 July

10.00- Tour of Durham Castle

11.15- Visit to Palace Green Library including the exhibition ‘Time Machines’ centred on the life and work of HG Wells.

12.30- Lunch possibilities are available in a number of cafes in Saddler Street

15.00- Visit to Durham Cathedral to see the ‘Open Treasure’ exhibition

16.00- Guided tour of the Cathedral

17:00- End of visit

Ticket price is £70 per person,

The number of participants is restricted to 30 persons

Tickets must be purchased in advance and booking will close no later than 12:00pm on 16 June 2017

It is important to note that this price does not include travel to Durham and back, no travel within Durham for those who may need this, no accommodation, no wine at the dinner and no lunch on the Saturday.
