Sidney Sussex Society event at Huntingdon Racecourse
The Sidney Sussex Society will be holding a Racing Day at Huntingdon Racecourse on Sunday 30 October, the feature race being a £10,000 Novice Chase. There will be seven races, over steeplechase fences and hurdles, and we have booked our own box to include lunch. In addition, we shall also have a behind the scenes tour of the weighing room (not usually available to the public) and Parade Ring, as well as weather permitting, a trip to one of the open ditch fences. Our box will also have its own bar and betting facilities and the racecourse will organise a sweepstake for the box - a bottle of bubbly to the winner!
Colin Roberts, a Fellow of Sidney, and an equine veterinarian with a wide experience of racing, will also give a short pre-lunch talk.
Huntingdon Racecourse is very easy to get to, being just off the A1 or one can catch the shuttle bus from Huntingdon station which has links to Kings Cross and other stations.
Racing fans may know that the 1928 Grand National was won by Tipperary Tim at a price of 100/1, ridden by William Dutton, a Sidney graduate. Let’s hope for a similar priced winner on our day!
