These Distracted Times is a programme of church and chamber music from the time of our Foundress, Lady Frances Sidney, composed by one of the great musical giants of Jacobean England, Thomas Tomkins. In February 2008, it was voted Gramophone Magazine's Editor's Choice and Disc of the Month. The three Gramophone articles are available here:
These Distracted Times is among the first recordings of the new early music label Obsidian, and is the first major recording project since the appointment of the College’s first Director of Music, Dr David Skinner. The Tomkins masterworks featured on this CD were newly edited and reconstructed by Dr Skinner, and recorded in the Chapel of Sidney Sussex College.
